It has been far too long...

Long story short, it has been far to long since I have posted a blog. I have been busy, happy and overall good... as far as I would like to think. After another 4 months in the beautiful BVI, I have continued to learn more and more about myself, and what I want to do in my future both as a career and as a man.
Not only have I had many self realizations, I have also found out a lot about other people around me. Specifically those I call my family and friends.

Obviously, I have my biological family, that I love more than anything on the planet. After that, I definitely have developed a "BVI Family", the ones that if they were not there, the BVI would never be the same. They are some of the most incredible people I have ever known, both in their professional lives, but on a personal level as well. Being as mature as I would like to think of myself, it has always been a habit to have older friends. I always seemed to click better with those who were more set in a career or at least not living life on a whim. I tend to reflect on Plato in times like these, oddly enough (Thanks Moots.), and his classification of friendship. That when we are younger, we have friends for their "expediency", because they are convenient. As we grow older, friendships become something more. I guess this is something that we should all just know, it's common sense, at least to me it is...

I guess where this whole thing is going is that I am really understanding more about life, what is important, and not to let anyone ever hold me back and affect me. I've always cared what people thought, while being confident, still conscientious of those around me. Today is the day I stop caring.

Travel To The BVI

So where to start this first blog entry on my way to the BVI. I figured I should do one before arriving, just because of the trip I have had so far. I am writing this, 35k feet above what I assume to be Tennessee, but I am not too sure. It looks pretty bland, so it may even be Ohio.

The first leg of my trip, Flint to Chicago, went off without a hitch. On and off in 43 minutes, pretty quick little jump across the state. O’Hare, this being the first time I had been there mind you, was absolutely mind-blowing huge. The sheer fact that there were 3 different McDonald’s in the walk from one terminal to another was ridiculous. With that being said. I met 3 very wonderful people early on. First, an older woman that was flying out to the Great Plains, she was kind hearted, and really made the shaky flight a little better with some conversation.

Then, while sitting in terminal K10 at O’hare, a chicago couple sat down next to me. I started a conversation with the wife, and they were headed to St. Thomas. They were really quite wonderful, and it was great talking about past travels and the future of myself, and themselves. She was impressed with my job opportunity and found my to be quite outgoing and perfect for my position. I humbly agreed and boarded my flight to San Juan. Amazing really, the plane, packed to the gills, luckily, I made the flight attendant laugh early in our conversation, and I was hastily moved into First Class. Thank God, because I was sitting to a very small asian woman, who was crammed between myself, and a woman...with a crying baby. Flight from Hell if I had ever seen one, I probably would have shot myself if I were her.

This brings me to my third encounter, a gentleman from Puerto Rico. He and I were both bumped to first class, and are currently enjoying all the complimentary goods. We discussed business, school, and the like, and there  is another 3  hours left to my flight. I suppose I will continue this blog a bit later. Oh, and this is some damn good orange juice, not what I expected from an airline.

.......To Be Continued.......

So, another update I suppose. I can see the ocean, and I see red clay ocean deltas, which leads me to believe I am somewhere over Georgia. Go Bulldogs. I can see the ocean, and it goes for miles...absolutely unbelievably incredible. Was that too many adjectives? I suppose, but it is jaw-dropping gorgeous, and I only have a few more hours left upon this Boeing 737. I find it amazing that the Wright Bro’s designed a plane made of sticks and canvas, and today we have monster crafts that can hold hundreds of people.

......To Be Contouvererddeded

The last and final leg of my trip was delayed...by an hour. But, after arriving I was quickly ran through immigrations and moved out and into the unknown. I met the driver for Biras and was brought to the boat docks where the Princess II was waiting. It was starting to look stormy, and the sea was quite rough. We arrived after about 40 minutes where I then met Rik. He showed me a quick tour of the property and dropped me off at my room where I would be staying for 2 nights, just to see what rooms were like, so I could describe them to the guests. We later had dinner, which was amazing, and I have decided it will be an early bed time.

A Turn of Events

When I started this blog, it was with the intent to document some of the little things that happen in my life, thoughts and feelings etc. After posting those blogs, there has been a turn of events and it is definitely for the best. I will be going to be doing an internship at Biras Creek Resort on the island of Virgin Gorda, BVI.

This is an amazing opportunity and my emotions are all over the board between being excited and a little nervous to be completely honest. This blog will be changing gears if you will, and I will be completely documenting, if you will, my life in the BVI for the next 6 months. Look for photos, stories and interesting findings of my time there. 6 months of beauty and the ocean...I cannot wait.

An Odd Concotion

I once again applied for the 36th Stafford Dinner Board, and I am looking forward to interviews in the upcoming weeks. I have decided to throw my hat into the ring for a Student Advisor position, more specifically Advisor to Food and Beverage. I honestly feel that it would be wrong for me to do food and beverage 2 years in a row, and its time for new creative minds to take on the task of designing a full menu and successful event.

That doesn't mean I have stopped coming up with new and interesting menu options for my own endeavors and home cooking. I haven't really put myself into a genre, which I think is the right thing to do so young in my "career". I have always lived in a home that has been centered around home style cooking, and usually a mix between southern and northern specialties. I have concocted a twist on an artist's favorite dish, and I think it is something that would be quite successful no matter the audience.

Make food that makes people happy, and I guess I will see many great successes.

The Initial Briefing

I have been contemplating creating a new blog for sometime. Somewhere I can post thoughts, ideas, feelings and critiques of politics, movies, food, drink and life in general. This is the Manifesto of such things, through my mind and eyes.
